There hasn’t been an official release date set for the next Super Mario game. In fact, we don’t even know what the next Mario game is. Nintendo has played its cards close to its chest about the future of the series and hasn’t given any clues as to where the world’s favorite plumber will end up next.
What’s the release date for the next Super Mario game?
Nintendo hasn’t revealed a release date for the next Super Mario game. It’s also tough to predict when it’ll come out from previous data. Since the first game in the series, Super Mario Bros., released in 1985, the release pace has been erratic. For example, between 1986 and 1996, eight main series Mario games were released. However, between 1997 and 2007, there were only three. Nintendo then turned around and launched ten Mario titles between 2009 and 2019.
However, the franchise has been quiet since Super Mario Odyssey was released in 2017. Since then, we got Super Mario Maker 2 and a Super Mario 3D World port for Switch, but that’s it. Logic would dictate that we’re due for a new game soon, but we’re dealing with Nintendo, which is happy to let some of its most beloved franchises lay dormant for a decade or more.
What will the next Super Mario game be?
Unfortunately, Nintendo hasn’t even hinted about the next Mario game. It seems strange not to use the publicity from the movie for marketing a new title, but that seems to be the route the company is taking.
Without hard evidence, we can’t point to whether the next Mario game will be a sequel to Odyssey or an entirely new adventure. But, hopefully, we’ll get some news sooner or later, and when we do you’ll see it here.
