Since the locked safehouse door is close to the generator that will open the door when you turn it on, it’s not some difficult puzzle to work out. But the key to turn on the generator can be hard to locate. Here’s where you can find it so you can open the entrance to the safe room.

The Redfall Basswood safehouse key can be found in the lock of the green car between the generator and the safehouse door.
The vehicle is a classic car with a pastel green paint job. The driver seat door will be stained with some blood with a corpse resting on the floor (that poor guy). The key will be nearby and have a black tag with a white outline of a house, which I suppose is a symbol of the safehouse icon.
Once you take the Basswood safehouse key from the door, the car alarm will begin ringing, luring a lot of vampires toward your location. It’s up to you if you want to face them for extra experience points, but if you want to avoid this problem, you can rewire the car so that the alarm won’t start blaring in the first place.
Or if you don’t want to spend the time to rewire the car, there’s nothing wrong with taking the key, quickly running toward the generator, turning it on, and then heading straight through the safehouse door. The oncoming wave of vampires will not be able to get into the room in the next screen.
