Fans are wondering if there’ll be a Metal Gear Solid 4 remake or remaster. With the recent PlayStation Showcase reveal, it’s hoped Konami will continue its revival of the series by bringing the most elusive of the main games to modern platforms. We’ll take a look at the possibilities of an MGS4 remake and the chances it’ll happen below.
Will there be an MGS4 remake or remaster?
There are no officially announced plans for a remake or remaster of Metal Gear Solid 4. While every other main series title has appeared on multiple platforms, MGS4 remains locked to the PS3. It hasn’t been made backward compatible with PS4 or PS5, and the only way to play it on current platforms is on PS Now, which is less than ideal.
It’s possible that Konami might remake or remaster Metal Gear Solid 4 at some point. The studio is showing a renewed interest in revisiting the franchise, and making its conclusion available for a new generation of players would be great. However, there’s been speculation for years that MGS4 was so closely optimized for the PS3’s unique Cell architecture that it would take a ton of work to port or remaster it.
For now, if you want to play MGS4, you must either use a PS3 or subscribe to PS Plus and stream it via PS4 or PS5. Of course, you could always try playing via PC on the RPCS3 emulator, but it’s not perfect and requires mid-high-range specs to run the game at all.
