We hoped that Ambrosia the Chocobo didn’t die in Final Fantasy 16. With all the death and destruction that occurred at Phoenix Gate, it didn’t seem like there was a lot of hope that Clive’s feathered friend would make it out alive due to her injury. Unfortunately, you won’t learn about her fate until much later on in the game.
Does Clive’s Chocobo live in Final Fantasy 16?
Ambrosia does live through the tragedy at Phoenix Gate in Final Fantasy 16. She is wounded when protecting Clive but has the good sense to run when Ifrit appears. However, Clive won’t see her again for a long, long time.
In Final Fantasy 16, The Night of Flames occurs in the year 860, and Clive won’t meet Ambrosia again until 878. In the 18 years since he last saw her, Clive has given up hope that his white Chocobo survived Ifrit’s rampage. However, a merchant near Martha’s Rest in Rosaria tells Clive that a flock of noble Chocobos, led by “Whiteheart,” is being targeted by a group of poachers.
Whiteheart is a hero around Martha’s Rest, routinely protecting travelers against the dangers of the road. So, the merchant beseeches Clive to save Whiteheart. The party tracks the Chocobos and discovers that Whiteheart is actually Ambrosia. After taking down the poachers, Ambrosia reunites with Clive and decides that she and her flock will journey with him after that.
So, this story gets a happy ending. It turns out that despite the injury to her eye, Ambrosia escaped Phoenix Gate and managed to survive on her own. However, she’s delighted to join Clive and will be available to ride in select areas for the rest of the game.
Clive’s reunion with Ambrosia underscores the enduring bond between the two characters, which persists through hardships and time. It adds a touching layer of emotion to the game, illustrating the profound relationship between man and beast, which is a significant theme in Final Fantasy 16.
