If you’re looking for an alternative to Apollo, Reddit Sync, RIF is Fun or the other third-party Reddit apps that shut down today; there’s not much to choose from. Reddit’s decision to start charging for API calls pretty much eliminated the most popular alternatives to the official app overnight. However, many users would rather stop visiting the site altogether than use Reddit’s bloated, convoluted, and ad-filled official app.
Fortunately, there are still some alternatives to the official Reddit app. However, don’t expect the experience to be as straightforward or polished as Apollo and Sync were.
What’s the best alternative to Apollo, Reddit Sync, and RIF is Fun?
Now that most third-party Reddit apps have shut down, visiting the site is a chore. The remaining apps are nowhere near as polished as Apollo, Sync, Reddit is Fun and the others that are now gone. So, as of writing, our preference is to view the site through a browser.
You might think viewing Reddit on a mobile browser like Safari or Chrome is unthinkable with how many annoying pop-ups there are trying to steer you to the official app. However, it’s not so bad once you get rid of those.
To make the mobile version of the website more usable on iOS, you’ll need to download Sink It for Reddit. Sink It is a Safari extension that blocks many of the annoyances of the mobile site and makes it a lot quicker and easier to use.
On Android, you can use uBlock Origin in Firefox to block the pop-ups on the mobile site, but you’ll need to find a ruleset that’ll work. Alternatively, there are scripts you can install with Tampermonkey which accomplish the same task.
With the most popular third-party Reddit apps gone, new ones will likely fill the void. However, for now, the mobile website is the best solution that you can get running easily.
