Starfield DLSS RTX

Starfield DLSS and RTX: Will it Get Nvidia Features?

Nvidia users are hoping Starfield gets DLSS and RTX. These technologies, when combined, help boost performance a provide more realistic and immersive lighting and shadows. However, when Bethesda revealed it would partner with AMD, those hopes were dashed. However, there’s still a light at the end of the tunnel. So, we’ll take a look at the probability of DLSS and RTX coming to Starfield below.

Will Starfield get DLSS?

Since Bethesda is partnering with AMD, it’s unlikely we’ll see an official implementation of DLSS, at least at launch. If the deal expires, official DLSS support might be added in a later patch. The best we can hope for is AMD’s FSR 2.2.x upscaling. Fortunately, Nvidia cards can use this tech, but it doesn’t match DLSS when it comes to performance savings or fidelity.

More Starfield

However, a modder is stepping up to the plate to give some love to Nvidia users. PureDark, who has added DLSS to a host of games, made the promise that they’ll be adding support for the easier-to-implement DLSS 3 to Starfield within the five-day early access period. They stated that they would then work on DLSS 2 after launch. The mod isn’t free, as PureDark charges $5 for early access to their DLSS patches on Patreon. However, For that fee, you’ll also get DLSS test builds for games like Skyrim, Fallout 4, The Last of Us, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Will Starfield have RTX support?

What we’ve seen of Starfield so far doesn’t indicate it’ll have RTX support. Digital Foundry’s analysis stated that lighting has been updated compared to Bethesda’s previous games, but the use of ray tracing wasn’t apparent.

Again, Starfield might get official RTX support at some time in the future. Alternatively, players can use a third-party implementation of ray tracing, like McFly’s RTGI shader, to add support for the feature.
