The Remnant 2 chess puzzle is one of the harder obstacles you’ll face in the game. Located in the Postulant’s Parlor dungeon, this puzzle gives you access to a formidable weapon, but for many players, it’s a real mindbender. Fortunately, once you know how the game works, it’s much easier than a real chess match.
How to solve the chess puzzle in Remnant 2
While the pieces make this look like a chess puzzle in Remnant 2, it’s actually more similar to Tic-Tac-Toe. The objective is to get all three of your white pieces in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line. Your opponent, the Postulant, is trying to do the same.
The board is likely random each time you roll a new campaign, so don’t count on the solution being the same every time. However, there are two rules that apply no matter if it’s your first or thousandth time playing:
- White (you) starts first.
- On your turn, you can move one piece.
- You can move your piece by one space.
- Your pieces can’t occupy the same space as your opponents.
The tricky part is that since you both have three pieces, it’s easy to get in a stalemate where you just continue blocking each other with no resolution. There’s no capturing of pieces in this game, so breaking out of this loop can be tough. That means making a risky move or forfeiting a match can sometimes be advantageous.
Unfortunately, there is a consequence to losing. Each loss brings a stack of the Cursed status, permanently removing a percentage of your health. However, you can get rid of them by heading back to the nearest Worldstone.
Once you solve the chess puzzle, you’ll get the Royal Hunting Bow. This is a great weapon once you get the hang of it, and is definitely worth having around.
