Remnant 2 Beat Magister Dullain Solo Avoid Instant Kill

Remnant 2: How to Avoid Magister Dullain Instant Kill Tongue in Solo

Magister Dullain is especially annoying in Remnant 2 for solo players. His instant kill attack allows it to jab its tongue straight through you for an instant game over. You’ll almost certainly fall victim to this at least once, especially since it has a little fakeout that can cause you to dodge too early. However, this boss isn’t so tough once you learn how to avoid its instakill.

How to beat Magister Dullain solo in Remnant 2

The tough part about fighting Magister Dullain in single-player in Remnant 2 is that its tongue attack instant kill causes an immediate game over. So, even if you’re playing as a Handler and you meet the requirements to trigger the Bonded perk, you still won’t be revived. Note that this is a true instakill, and you can’t tank the hit, even at 100% HP.

Fortunately, I’ve only seen Magister Dullain use this move once per fight. When you get it down to around 20-25% health, it will open its mouth and stick out its tongue. It then does a fakeout lash, followed by the actual attack. The trick to dodging this move is to not get antsy.

You’ll want to hit the button just after the initial fakeout lash. Alternatively, you can retreat backward and try and put one of the columns between Dullain and yourself. However, I haven’t tested the full range of this move or its radius, but it seemed fairly narrow.

Don’t get discouraged if you have to take on Dullain a few times in Remnant 2. It’s a boss that’s definitely balanced toward co-op, and the only way to take it down solo is to study its patterns and attacks. Fortunately, it never switches things up, so once you’ve got the loop memorized you’re good to go.

Dullain is typically an obstacle in the way of your next objective. If this is the case during your playthrough, you’ll find a crucial item closeby after defeating it.
