An Alan Wake 2 New Game Plus mode would let players live through the nightmare as many times as they want. It is often expected for single-player games to have such modes, even if they come after launch. So does Alan Wake 2 have a NG+ option?
Is there a NG+ mode for Alan Wake 2?
Alan Wake 2 does not currently have New Game Plus. Players can’t even do much with their completed save, as it just dumps them at the final checkpoint upon reloading. Not only does this make getting all the collectibles a pain, but it also limits replay value.
However, that is slated to change. Remedy Entertainment confirmed through the game’s official Twitter account that New Game Plus is coming sometime in the future (along with a new harder Nightmare difficulty). No release date window was given and was still listed as “TBD” in the announcement tweet.
This New Game Plus update will let players keep their weapons and upgrades as they run through game again, but it remains to be seen how or if collectibles transfer over. Regardless, it will even have an “alternative narrative” with new manuscript pages and videos to find. Given how cyclical the ending is and Wake’s final lines, it is even possible that it could be part of the Alan Wake canon, especially if it is being paired with new narrative bits.
The specifics are a little harder to predict because Remedy has not been too keen on New Game Plus modes in the past. Despite receiving many updates and a couple years of support, Control, the team’s previous game, did not ever get a New Game Plus mode. Quantum Break, Alan Wake, and Alan Wake: American Nightmare were the same way, as well, and did not allow players to go through their campaigns again with their endgame loadouts.
