You may be confused about what to do next after beating Messmer at Shadow Keep in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. The fight itself is relatively anticlimactic, and despite obtaining Messmer’s Kindling, you may not know where to go if you haven’t noticed the clues. Fortunately, the path from here is clear, but a bit arduous.
What to do after beating Messmer in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
Once you beat Messmer and obtain Messmer’s Kindling in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, you can check the description of the item to figure out what to do next:
“Messmer’s Kindling
The kindling that burned inside Messmer the Impaler.
A dark thing, eaten away at by a wicked serpent.Burns the sealing tree said to be found at the old Rauh ruins.
Messmer, too, bore a vision of fire.”
Description for Messmer’s Kindling
So, you need to burn the sealing tree found at the Rauh ruins after beating Messmer. However, at this point, you may have never been to that part of the map yet. Fortunately, you don’t have to go far to find the entrance to the ruins.
Head back to Speciment Storehouse and proceed to the first floor. Here, you’ll find a lift that’ll take you down into a section containing lots of living jars. Once you make it through, you’ll find yourself at the West Rampart. Head across the bridge and take the lift, and you’ll be at the Viaduct Minor Tower.
Exit the tower and head west into the Rauh Ancient Ruins. Your goal is to make it east and find a passage full of Scarlet Rot. Fight your way through here and climb three floors to find the Church of the Bud. You’ll fight a boss here, and once the path is clean, you can reach the sealing tree.
Burn the sealing tree, and you’ll open the way to Miquella’s (and your) final destination: Enir-Ilim.
