Your horse is the most important companion you have in Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s important to take care of your horse, but it’s just as important not to lose it. As you bond with your horse it increases its abilities, health, and stamina, so if you leave your horse in the field you’ll want to get it back. Also, although Rockstar’s massive open world is a feat in itself, traversing it without a horse is pretty much impossible. But how to in Red Dead Redemption 2 get your horseback? We’ll show you how it’s done.
How to Get Your Horse Back if You Lose It
There are plenty of moments in Red Dead Redemption 2 where you’ll have to abandon your horse. Either a mission will require you to proceed without your horse, or it’ll finish miles away from where you left it. Sometimes your horse will pop back after a mission, other times it won’t. What do you do then? There are two possible options. Well, three, if you count death: if you die you’ll respawn with your horse.
Firstly, you can fast travel. While fast travel isn’t as easy as it is in other open-world games, if you take a train, stagecoach, or travel from your camp to a town, your horse should respawn. Secondly, visit a Stables in any town, or the Horse Station in your gang hideout, if you’ve got that upgrade. There’ll be an option to retrieve your horse there, and it’ll come right back to you.
How to Get Your Horse Back If You Are Close
This should be obvious, but just in case. If your horse is in hearing distance, you can whistle twice by tapping Up on the D-pad and your horse should come right back to you. As you take care of the animal, by petting it, giving it treats, saying supportive nurturing things to it etc, your bond with the horse should grow. As this happens, the range the horse can hear you will expand. Just another good reason to take care of ol’ Daisy.
Red Dead Redemption 2 – How to Get Your Horse Back If It’s Lost
In Red Dead Redemption 2, losing your horse completely can cause you tons of major problems down the line. However, the most immediate issue is the fact that you not only have to find your horse; you also need to find it on foot. If your horse isn’t close and isn’t in the stables, it may seem as if luck is against you. However, before you buy a new horse that will cost you both money and the bond you have with your current horse, there is one more foolproof method you have at your disposal.
Luckily, there’s a quick solution that will cause your horse to spawn right next to you. If you aren’t engaged in combat, you can press the left bumper to bring up the items wheel. It will be set to the weapons wheel by default, but by pressing the right bumped you’ll be in the items section. At the bottom, or six o’clock on the wheel, you’ll be able to build a camp. Select this option and go to sleep.
When you wake up several hours later, your horse will have spawned beside you. That way you don’t need to waste any unnecessary time scouring the plains on foot in search of your runaway stallion. Although you can usually see your horse’s location on your map or collect it at a stable, the campfire solution means that you don’t actually need to go anywhere or do anything major. The most convenient option is to just build a campfire and take a nap, especially if you’re in the middle of nowhere. You’ll wake up feeling refreshed with your trusty steed standing right beside you.
