PS4 Will Replicate the Success of Wii, Says Analyst

PlayStation 4 has been selling incredibly well ever since it launched back in 2013. As such, it shouldn't come as all too much of a surprise to hear that analyst firm Strategy Analytics expects Sony's console to go down in history as one of the best-selling pieces of gaming hardware, rivaling that of Wii and PlayStation 2.

According to its Connected Home Devices Report (via GamesIndustry), PS4 "is on path to reproduce the success of the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii." In fact, the firm projects a global installed base of a whopping 80 million for PlayStation 4. Meanwhile, sales of Xbox One by that time are expected to reach 57 million. That makes for a whopping 40 percent lead for Sony.

Do you think Sony's new-gen console is going to continue to sell at the incredible rate it has been? Could sales eventually slow down, affording Microsoft the opportunity to narrow the gap with Xbox One? Is Wii U doomed to fade into obscurity?
