Plenty of modders spend countless hours working on new content with no real monetary compensation to speak of, but now they will be able to set a price for their work on Steam.
Valve announced today that paid mod support is coming to Steam Workshop for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Other games will do the same "in the coming weeks."
Pricing structure shifts depending on individual modders. They can choose to sell mods for a set price, set up a pay-what-you-want model, or release them for free. Ultimately they will receive 25% of the revenue, with the rest going to Valve and the game developer.
The PC community already knows how great mods can be, but paid mod support may also lead to more scammers looking for a quick buck. Valve is implementing a 24-hour refund policy though, so hopefully that protects most customers.
