Steam Deck OLED Announced by Valve

Despite Valve‘s shaky history when it comes to hardware projects, the Steam Deck has been enjoying immense success. Now get ready for a new OLED version of the handheld gaming PC, which is arriving November 16.

This isn’t Steam Deck 2, however

A recent video on the Valve YouTube channel (along with an announcement on Twitter/X) teases the upcoming latest edition of the Steam Deck.

Along with the aforementioned OLED screen, the new variant will also boast a longer battery life and faster downloads. It’ll be available in two versions: a 512 GB model and 1 TB model.

The post on Twitter offers up some clarity for those who have been noticing some issues on the Steam Store. The OLED Steam Deck is being sold in “US, Canada, European Union, and United Kingdom, as well as Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan (via Komodo).”

A quick look on Steam also shows that the current Deck models are being sold at discounted prices. Whether this is just an offer or indicates a more permanent price drop cannot be said at this stage, but it does mean those who have yet to get one may consider a non-OLED variant now that they’re currently cheaper.

It should be said that the OLED model is not a Steam Deck 2, merely an improvement on the current device that’s available. According to Valve, a follow-up is unlikely to happen for a couple of years.

With the mobile gaming market now heating up – with stiff competition from Lenovo and ASUS – a better Steam Deck should provide a nice go-between until the next generation comes along.
