Deadlock is a brand-new game that’s currently in development by Valve, which has been something of an open secret. While we’re still learning about the project at this stage, someone from the studio has shared a clip from an earlier build, which features some older assets.

As reported by PC Gamer, notable leaker Gabe Follower – known for spilling the beans on some of Valve’s work – has uploaded new footage that shows some old Deadlock gameplay. More specifically, it shows about a minute and a half from a prototype, rather than a more recent build. The footage is said to come from Valve developer “Yoshi.”
The clip from this much earlier version of the game features a player carrying an assault rifle, with what appears to be some alien-like bugs in tow. Long-time fans of Half-Life will recognize these as an alternative look for the Antlions, which featured in the later levels of HL2. The weapon itself looks like it comes from another Valve series: Left 4 Dead.
It’s always interesting to see work-in-progress, especially now we know the project is real. This is especially interesting due to it showing an older build of Deadlock. Over the past few weeks, many have been engaging in some playtesting, with some streaming content from the current build. As such, what Yoshi/Gabe Follower have given us is a glimpse into the state the game was in at an earlier point.
Deadlock is being touted as a “hero shooter,” with some Overwatch mechanics and a rail system not too dissimilar from BioShock Infinite‘s “skyhook.”
There’s now an official Steam page for the upcoming release, though there’s very little there. We can see that it is indeed a game being developed (and published) by Valve. There aren’t any screenshots from or any gameplay, though there is a 22-second teaser that just shows a shifty man watching us from a dark alleyway.
The page describes it as a “multiplayer game in early development,” adding that there’s “lots of temporary art and experimental gameplay.” It’s also currently “limited to friend invites via our playtesters.” As such, it’s impossible to know when Deadlock will actually be released.
In addition to this, Valve is also rumored to be working on another secret project, which may or may not be Half-Life 3. Again, all we can do at this stage is speculate and hope.
