Rumor: New Valve Game Deadlock Could Be Announced Soon

Not too long ago, there were rumors swirling that Valve was possibly working on a new game called Deadlock. While we still don’t know whether this project is real or not, more information has surfaced which suggests the elusive title could be announced soon.

What do we currently know about Deadlock?

According to an entry on SteamDB – which tracks all things related to the Steam platform – a mysterious game called Deadlock has been getting updates, as noted by PCGamesN.

A recent post from SteamDB creator Pavel Djunk specifically points to a section in the changelist which highlights that something called “Project8Staging” has been renamed to simply “Deadlock.” Whether this is in relation to something Valve is working on remains to be seen at this stage.

However, there have been further updates to the entry since this recent revelation. Additionally, the fact that this game is shown as being developed by the Source 2 engine, which was used to power a number of Valve games, including Half-Life: Alyx and DOTA 2, is quite telling.

At this stage, all we can do is speculate as to what these changes on Steam could be pointing to. Without official confirmation from the developer, no one can be certain what’s going on with the rumored game.

So far, all that’s been shown is leaked footage from what is said to be Deadlock. From that alone, the project appears to be a hero-shooter, perhaps not too far removed from the likes of Overwatch in terms of style and gameplay mechanics.

If the data seen on SteamDB does mean anything, it’s possible information straight from the horse’s mouth could be imminent. Having said that, someone on X who goes by Ridge_XR has said they are a tester on Deadlock, and that they doubt it has anything to do with the game’s release, adding that it’s “not quite ready.” We’ll have to wait and see at this stage.
