Every so often, we get our hopes up about the idea that Valve may finally – after all this time – be bringing us Half-Life 3. Well, we’re not quite there yet, but there have been some interesting and ongoing developments that suggest a new entry in the iconic FPS series could still be a possibility.
Will we ever see a Half-Life 3?
Recently, a number of resources reported that Half-Life 3 may be on the horizon, thanks to a voice actor who accidentally let slip some information. It seems as though Natasha Chandel had named a mysterious project they’d been involved with called “Project White Sands (video game)”.
Their website has since been taken down, but it seems this has been enough to get the ball rolling in people speculating about Valve possibly working on a new Half-Life installment. The fact that Chandel’s site is no longer accessible may lead some to believe in the rumor even more, though we have no official confirmation about what’s true or not at the time of writing.
According to YouTuber Tyler McVicker – who reports on all things related to Valve – leaks show that the developer could very well be working on a project that, when discovered in 2021, was being referred to as “HLX.” It’s now believed that both this and Project White Sands are related.
McVickers goes on to show datamined information regarding the mysterious game, with references to things like Xen creatures, a HEV suit, and other things that are notable assets of the Half-Life universe.
Concluding the video analysis, McVicker – choosing their words carefully – says they do believe that Valve is indeed working on a game that could be considered Half-Life 3. If so, it will likely be a non-VR game, unlike 2020’s Half-Life: Alyx.
It’s tempting to say that these rumors could simply be pointing to the other elusive Valve project, Deadlock. However, McVicker is certain that HLX/Project White Sands is not in relation to this other game, which is said to be more of a hero shooter. Hopefully, we’ll get confirmation on whether Half-Life 3 is finally in production, but we need to sit tight until official news arrives. If it does.
