Techland developed the first Dead Island game, but the company went on to make Dying Light while Yager Development worked on a sequel. It was scheduled to come out this spring, but unfortunately the game has been pushed to next year.
The announcement was made on the Dead Island 2 Twitter account, which also links to a lengthy statement on the delay. According to the development team, they have yet to reach the lofty goals set for the upcoming sequel.
And we wanted to have all of that that done for release in Spring 2015.
We have been looking at the game long and hard, and we have decided we didn’t reach that goal we set out to achieve quite yet. This is why we have decided to delay Dead Island 2 to 2016.
Hopefully the delay results in a more impressive sequel. Plus, fans of co-op zombie games can still play Dying Light in the interim.
