Nintendo Gonna Nintendo: Owns Japanese Game Hardware/Software Sales Charts Leading to Golden Week

In the week leading up to the string of Japanese national holidays known as "Golden Week," Nintendo is doing what it almost always does in festive seasons: sell more games than anyone else. These charts come via Dengeki and give data for April 27 – May 3.

First up, Hardware:

3DS – 26,976

Wii U – 21,016

PS4 – 20,668

Vita – 15,613

PS3 – 4,203

Xbox 1 – 197

That's not super high, but keep in mind that the bigger boost is expected next week, when the much bigger part of Golden Week will be reflected on the chart. Here's how the software looked:

1. (3DS) Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition – 178,525

2. (WIU) Dragon Quest X – 89,513

3. (WIU) Xenoblade Chronicles X – 86,119

4. (Wii) Dragon Quest X – 79,888

5. (3DS) Style Savvy 3: Kira Kira Code – 24,094

6. (3DS) Bravely Second: End Layer – 22,838

7. (PSV) Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition – 15,520

8. (PSV) How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend: Blessing Flowers – 10,622

9. (PSV) To Heart 2: Dungeon Travelers  – 10,339

10. (PSV) New Tokyo Legacy: Operation Babel  – 8,471

11. (WIU) Mario Party 10 – 7,970

12. (PS4) Dying Light – 7,367

13. (3DS) Yo-kai Watch 2 – 6,811

14. (3DS) Ansatsu Kyoushitsu: Korosensei Daihouimou!! – 6,400

15. (WIU) Mario Kart 8 – 5,984

16. (3DS) Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS – 5,844

17. (PS3) One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 – 4,800

18. (PS4) Bloodborne – 4,250

19. (PS3) BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Extend – 4,188

20. (PS4) Tropico 5 – 3,772

And if we count up all new software sold, stretching even beyond the top 20, we get figures that look like this:

3DS – 335,791

Wii U – 204,676

Vita – 87,892

PS3 – 52,717

PS4 – 51,981

PSP – 4,538

X1 – 733

And that's what a huge install base can do for you. Or, in the case of Wii-U, holiday hype and a great lineup.

Got any predictions for what the proper Golden Week will bring for each system?
