Sony’s Yoshida Says PS4 Won’t Come Soon

Ok, so the PS4 development is already underway. Gotta stay ahead of the curve, right? Unfortunately, if any of you thought we'd be seeing Sony's next-generation console anytime soon, Sony Computer Entertainment president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida's about to dash your hopes.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Yoshida said point-blank that "as far as we are concerned, we have no desire now to do that [release a new home console]." Hear that whoosh of air? That's the sound of thousands of fanboys' hopes deflating.

He was quite a bit more vague when it came to actually determining when they would do it, though:

"Looking at the platform cycle, when the platform becomes something game developers are not able to improve their creations with, that's the time we have to really seriously consider shifting to the next generation."

Yoshida seems convinced that the PS3 still has a lot of life left in it. But citing the decidedly lackluster Move as a reason for why there's "a lot more we can do from the game development standpoint" isn't going to convince many others. If the Wii U fares decently and Microsoft moves to make the Xbox 720, I'm confident that Sony's gonna change their tune lickety-split.
