[Update] Nintendo has spoken out in response to the rumors that NX will be Android based, denying such reports.
The company provided the following statement to The Wall Street Journal: "There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX."
[Original] Nintendo's next platform will reportedly run on an Android-based operating system.
According to a report from Nikkei, as translated by a user on NeoGAF, Nintendo plans to build its next console around an Android-based OS in order to give "developers more flexibility in making content that can also be on smartphones and tablets."
Nintendo's mysterious new platform, currently codenamed NX, was announced earlier this year and aims to change gamers' lives. Sadly, the Big N has no plans to share more information about the device at this year's E3.
