Shigeru Miyamoto Sits Out on Development of Nintendo’s NX Console

Shigeru Miyamoto is best known for creating iconic Nintendo franchises such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Starfox, but he also assists in hardware development. For Nintendo's next console, the NX, he plans to shift his efforts away from the hardware.

In an interview with Fortune, Miyamoto discussed his role with the NX and how it's more hands-off than past Nintendo consoles.

“I’ve pulled myself back out of some of the hardware section and I’m really focused on some of the software that I’m involved in—for example, the new Starfox game,” he said. “Of course I am observing and looking at the hardware, but I am not actively participating and making decisions.”

Nintendo focused on Wii U and 3DS games at E3 this year, but the company plans to reveal more details on the NX next year. It'll be interesting to see how Nintendo adapts to the problems of the Wii U and how that affects hardware development.
