One of the most impressive games shown at E3 last month was Horizon: Zero Dawn, a brand new IP from Killzone developer Guerrilla Games. The E3 presentation focused on stealth and action, but there's a whole lot more to Horizon.
GamesRadar+ recently spoke with art director Jan Bart Van Beek and lead producer Lambert Wolterbeek Muller about the upcoming PlayStation 4 game. The duo explained that Horizon touts a huge open-world with distinct RPG mechanics.
According to Van Beek, "Every mountaintop is accessible, every river you can go through, every valley, and [the environment in the demo] is basically one of many valleys." Players will explore the open world with a "full climbing and traversal system."
As for the RPG mechanics, Van Beek notes that "the XP system is mostly tied to the perk system, so you can develop and focus your character." Players will also upgrade the protagonist by harvesting materials from robots in order to craft new weapon and ammo types.
Guerrilla Games plans to craft a single-player experience with Horizon, but that doesn't rule out the possibility of social features. In fact, the game already includes unspecified social features.
Horizon: Zero Dawn is expected to come out some time next year exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
