Xbox One's addition of Xbox 360 backwards compatibility, along with its incredible lineup of exclusive games, is the reason the platform is currently "building momentum," according to Microsoft.
"This progress, as well as the excitement we generated at E3—with Xbox exclusive gaming content and backwards compatibility—demonstrates the building momentum that exists within the Xbox ecosystem," Microsoft CFO Amy Hood said during Microsoft's latest earnings presentation (via GameSpot).
With exclusive titles like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza Motorsport 6, and Halo 5: Guardians all coming only to Xbox this holiday season, Sony's exclusive offerings for PlayStation gamers in 2015 is looking more and more pathetic with each passing day. Trust me, the likes of Until Dawn and Tearaway Unfolded don't hold a candle to what Microsoft has in its arsenal.
Microsoft announced backwards compatibility support for Xbox 360 games last month at E3 2015, and let's just say it resulted in more than a few cheers and claps from the audience. While support is currently only available to Xbox Preview members, it will be coming later this year with around 100 games supported. Over time, Microsoft plans to add more titles to catalog, upon publisher approval.
Do you think backwards compatibility is really that much of a selling point? Sony has made it clear it sees PlayStation Now as its solution for BC, and has no intention of allowing PS4 owners to play PS3 games natively on the console. Will that prove to come back and bite them? I guess we'll just have to wait and see how console sales shake out this holiday season.
