[Update] Square Enix has since clarified that the release of Dragon Quest XI and Dragon Quest X for Nintendo's NX console are merely "under consideration."
[Original] Square Enix has officially announced Dragon Quest XI, which will be coming to not only the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS, but also the Big N's upcoming console, currently codenamed NX.
There's no release date, and a release for those outside of Japan remains unconfirmed. However, Square has since told Eurogamer it is considering bringing the game to western audiences. "We don't have a concrete plan at the moment," the publisher said. "However, we will consider it as we've done in the past for other Dragon Quest titles. We don't have further information to share at the moment."
Square Enix made the announcement during a 90-minute conference in which it discussed its over-arching plans for the franchise. The PS4 verion of DQXI features an art style similar to that of the PS2 entry, Dragon Quest VIII. The game is being developed by Square Enix and Orca using Unreal Engine 4.

Meanwhile, Dragon Quest XI on 3DS is a bit different, offering both 2D and 3D views between its two screens. The team at Toy Logic is aiding on this handheld version. You can see how it will look by checking out the screenshot from the event below.
But the real show-stopping news here is that the game is also coming to Nintendo's NX console. In addition, Dragon Quest X, which launched previously in Japan for both Wii and Wii U, will also be making its way to NX, as well as PS4.
Is this the beginning of a series of NX announcements from third-parties as we lead up to NX's big reveal? I sure hope so. After all, Nintendo's new console could definitely use a bit more love from third parties considering their glaring absence from Wii U. The fact that we're also getting game announcements for the console this early adds weight to the rumors that NX may release as soon as 2016.
