Mighty No. 9 Producer Discusses Delay

Mighty No. 9 was officially delayed this week, and fans haven't been happy about the news to say the least. Now one of the game's producers is discussing the delay and how it relates to a failure in communication.

In a new interview with Engadget, producer Nick Yu reiterated that the reason for the delay is a multiplayer bug.

"We were doing bug fixes and we found some bugs in the network system that will affect the multiplayer," he said. "It's not like a 'showstopper' bug, but it'll make players really frustrated. We don't want that to be the experience for our players, so that's why we decided to delay and polish the game a little bit more."

Aside from the multiplayer bug, the game is "100 percent complete." That adds to some of the frustration, as the single-player component is the main hook for most prospective players.

Yu also talked about the various projects that Keiji Inafune is involved in and how that affects development of Mighty No. 9 and public perception.

"The reality is, we said all that stuff in the updates, in the interviews, we did say [that Mighty No. 9 is not affected]," he explained. "But it wasn't communicated nicely enough. I'm not in that team, but I see that from the side, that communication wasn't done right, at all."

He went on to explain that a small team like the one working on Mighty No. 9 needs multiple projects to work on just to stay afloat. Nevertheless, he expresses that "it's hard for everyone to understand."

There's no specific release date for Mighty No. 9 at the moment, just a window of Q1 2016. Yu said that the team feels "really, really bad" about the delay, but hopefully it results in a better finished product.
