Star Wars: Battlefront Runs At 900p Resolution on PS4, a Blurry 720p on Xbox One

We're coming up on the two year anniversary of the new generation of consoles. By now it's expected that developers have ironed out issues with programming on new architecture. The standards are higher than ever before, and on most fronts games are meeting the expectations of gamers.

While this year's Star Wars game is projected to sell tens of millions of units, it falls short of hitting the resolution numbers that console gamers were hoping to see.

The current build of Star Wars: Battlefront runs at 900p on PS4. Some gamers are surprised that it hasn't hit the magic 1080p mark that most other AAA titles are managing on the platform. But that's a better situation than in the case of the Xbox One which runs at 720p, resulting in blurry edges and unsatisfactory image quality.

To make matters worse, Xbox One gamers have complained about rubber-banding and disconnection issues. These network-oriented problems are atypical of Xbox online gaming. It's almost as if the Xbox version, which will have to compete with a multi-million dollar PlayStation marketing campaign that pushes a Star Wars PS4 bundle, was deliberately not given its rightful attention due to the allure of Sony's marketing agreement.

These numbers are exactly the same as what Battlefield 4 offered on both platforms two years ago. Back then the PS4 version didn't quite deliver 1080p, but had better ambient occlusion effects as well as a more effective anti-aliasing method than its Xbox One counterpart. It became a huge topic of discussion among gamers during the launch of both consoles.

There is one solution to all this: PC. If you've seen an image or GIF of the Star Wars: Battlefront beta that has impressed you, it's likely to have been taken from the PC version that supports up to 1440p resolution and higher settings. It is without a doubt the ultimate version of the game.

Since there is still a month to go before Star Wars: Battlefront hits store shelves, these numbers aren't final. However, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment if you expect a resolution jump with such a limited amount of time in development left, especially when the team is already busy addressing design issues such as Walker Assault balance.
