MGSV Has Shipped 6 Million Copies Becoming the Best-Selling Metal Gear Ever

Metal Gear's shift from PlayStation exclusivity to multiplatform was one that fueled a lot of rage, but if Konami's latest financials are any indication it was a change for the better.

Konami's latest financial statement shares that more than six million copies of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain have been shipped worldwide. This figure places it above the lifetime shipped units for Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of the Patriots, meaning that a wider audience was able to enjoy the game and see what the franchise is all about versus when it was focused on only one platform.

With that, Metal Gear Solid V is now the best-selling Metal Gear of all-time.

This figure is a full million higher than last October's five million copies shipped, meaning that an additional one million copies have moved in the past three months.

Although this means that Konami's latest AAA release is one of its best-selling ever, it remains committed to pulling out of the mainstream console and PC gaming market to instead focus on arcade devices and mobile games where it expects higher profit margins.

Metal Gear Solid V won our game of the year 2015 award. You can read more here.
