Dark Souls 3’s PC Version Will Run At 60 FPS, Developer Confirms

A rumor circulated the internet yesterday stating that Dark Souls 3 will be locked to 30 FPS on PC. FromSoftware has stepped in to correct the misinformation.

A tweet on the official Dark Souls Twitter account has confirmed that the PC version of Dark Souls 3 will run at 60 FPS. The tweet specifically states:

Forget what you've heard. #DarkSouls3 will run at 60 FPS on PC!

In contrast, the PS4 and Xbox One versions are expected to run at a variable framerate with a 30 FPS target, or an imposed 30 FPS lock.

FromSoftware has come a long way since it first debut on PC with Dark Souls where there were optimization issues and a strict 30 FPS lock. Those who tried to circumvent the limiter were met with an array of gameplay bugs including miscalculated dodge frames and increased weapon degradation. Its successor, Dark Souls 2, would improve on the foundation, but it hasn't been until Dark Souls 3 that FromSoftware has confidently ported to PC.

Dark Souls 3 is anticipated to be one of the year's best received games with widespread anticipation among those who have gotten their hands on a pre-release version. Many series fans are excited to see Bloodborne's formula alteration influence Dark Souls 3 in a number of ways.
