Nintendo CEO Iwata Is Naturally Resistant to Trolls

In a interview with Nikkei translated by Andriasang, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata was completely unfazed and serious about the myopic and trollish view of mainstream media that Nintendo needs to become more invested in mobile games:

This is absolutely not under consideration. If we did this, Nintendo would cease to be Nintendo. Having a hardware development team in-house is a major strength. It's the duty of management to make use of those strengths. It's probably the correct decision in the sense that the moment we started to release games on smartphones we'd make profits. However, I believe my responsibility is not to short term profits, but to Nintendo's mid and long term competitive strength.

Iwata also admits that he's "not totally clear today if the decision [to drop the 3DS price] was the correct one". At any rate, when asked whether the 3DS will ever see another price drop, he answered that "Nintendo intends for it to be the first and the last".
