Real or Fake? Resident Evil 6 Trailer Hits the Web

What do we have here? A supposed leaked Resident Evil 6 teaser trailer? Well, what do you know? Oh… no one knows. Conflicting reports coming from various sources have us–and everyone else–leaning towards the video being fake, but it sure as hell looks real. And the whole story about how things have unfolded are appropriately spooky.

Last night, Kotaku posted the supposed teaser trailer for Biohazard 6, or as it's known here in the US, Resident Evil 6. Kotaku claimed that their sources at Capcom Japan "confirmed" that the trailer "was being shown" in Capcom's "closed theatre at the Tokyo Game Show". Kotaku followed up with Capcom USA who refused to comment on "rumors or speculation".

Then, IGN's Rich George tweeted that the video is a fake. His info comes from his "multiple contacts at Capcom". OK, Mr. Cool. We get it, you talk to Capcom, and you're cooler (and more right) than Kotaku. Kotaku has since changed their tune, and are also calling it a fake, even changing the URL slug to "fake-resident-evil-6-video".

The whole situation is strange, yet fitting for Resident Evil. The video looks real, it's even emblazoned with Capcom and Resident Evil 15th Anniversary logos. The music, the theme, the strange coordinates – it all seems to real to be fake. But alas, we're not sure enough to stake our squeaky clean reputations on calling it real. So, fake it is.

Did Capcom kidnap some journalists' loved ones, their ransom is to force everyone to call it a fake? Is this a huge conspiracy? That would make for a excellent mediocre fiction novel.
