Resident Evil 2: a ghoulish face peeks around the corner, its creepy hand grips the wall.

Resident Evil 2 PC Rerelease Date Set for Later This Month

Get ready to experience Capcom‘s classic horror sequel once more, as the original 1998 Resident Evil 2 is getting a release on PC this month. The iconic game will be arriving on August 27 and will be exclusive to GOG.

Resident Evil 2 keeps coming back

Although we already have the remake of Resident Evil 2 from 2019 – which was a hugely successful reimagining of the OG – some may want to revisit classic RE2. Well, this rerelease will be your chance.

According to the description on GOG, it will join the Resident Evil rerelease, which came to PC just a few weeks ago. RE2 will be part of this bundle – as will Resident Evil 3 when that gets a rerelease – though it will also be available as a stand-alone purchase.

This latest edition of RE2 will also contain “more horror, more mutant creatures, and more evil than before,” according to the download page. Additionally, it’ll have improvements to the audio, cutscenes, the save game manager, DirectX rendering, and more.

In the original sequel, the ability to unlock the character Tofu was also achieved by completing the main game a bunch of times. However, in the new rerelease, the character – who is literally a giant block of tofu, hence the name – will be available from the start.

Resident Evil 2 was a triumph when it first released in the late 1990s. Its visuals were a marked improvement on its predecessor, and the fact that it dropped the player right into the heart of the action made for a very intense first playthrough.

From August 27, you’ll be able to relive Leon and Claire’s experiences in Raccoon City. It’s still the same old game but with a few tweaks and improvements to make it compatible with today’s systems, which is always nice.
