Just yesterday I went to nab the very last trophy I need for a Platinum in Resistance 3. I only had about 20 minutes to play, if that. But instead of getting my game on, I was greeted with a mandatory System Software update, PS3 firmware v3.72.
Normally, I don't mind firmware updates; they bring new features. But this update in particular, was a insignificant update providing only extra stability for PS3 games that…. weren't stable enough? Although, it didn't bring new features, it still took about 15 minutes in total to download and install, which just so happened to be all the time I could afford.
I couldn't even play the game I wanted. You know, the entire reason for owning a video game console in the first place.
This annoyance is prevalent on both the PS3 and PSP. But when it comes to the upcoming PlayStation Vita, Sony wont be wasting our time any longer.
Sony's Shuhei Yoshida told GameInformer:
I agree, it's very annoying when you only have one hour in your busy life to play a game, and when you have to spend 30 minutes out of that one hour to update the hardware.
I cannot talk about specific plans, but we are very aware of the issues, and we'd like to address those issues on PS Vita going forward.
He must have heard my bitching about it. Or maybe everyone bitches about it. Hopefully the bitching ends with the PlayStation Vita.
