Although Sony has made efforts to prevent its PSVR hardware from being played on devices other than the PS4, it turns out that using the HMD on PC or Xbox One is actually possible using only what’s included in the box.
To use the PSVR on a PC or Xbox One, simply plug the USB cable into the breakout box and PS4. Then, plug the HDMI into the secondary device. The PS4 will recognize that you’ve plugged the HDMI into an unknown source and engage Cinematic Mode.
In Cinematic Mode, you won’t have access to games and media with full VR support. However, you will be able to view the contents of the secondary device on a virtual 226″ flat panel that’s projected in a VR environment. It actually works surprisingly well, especially for desktop usage and videos.
PSVR has debuted to high demand thanks to its well-constucted hardware and strong launch library. Be sure to check out the best games for PSVR here.
