Tim Sweeney Recognized With Lifetime Achievement Award By Game Developers Choice

It has been announced that Tim Sweeney will be awarded with this year's Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the Game Developers Choice Awards. He will be the 17th recipient of the award.

Sweeney is best known for his work on ZZT, an innovative shareware title from the early 90's, in addition to being a founder at Epic Games where he would play a major role in the development of the Unreal Engine. The engine is one of the most widely used of its kind, serving as the foundation for hundreds of games.

Having found an interest in computer programming at the age of 10, Sweeney would go on to earn a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Maryland.

A ceremony will take place on March 1st at the 2017 Game Developers Conference to recognize Sweeney for his positive impact on the gaming industry.

Bethesda's Todd Howard was the last recipient of Game Developers Choice's Lifetime Achievement Award. Other recipients include John Carmack (DOOM), Shigeru Miyamoto (Mario), and Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear).
