More Overwatch Heroes Coming, But Sombra Is Hiding The Details

Everyone who plays Overwatch knows what happened with Sombra, a hero that was relentlessly teased for four whole months without any further details given until her actual release. It's what was known as the Sombra Alternate Reality Game, and the term "ARG" instantly makes Overwatch players cringe.

The bottom line is that Blizzard messed it up, missing the point of an ARG entirely while stringing along the Overwatch community for a third of a year.

While it may seem irrelevant at this time, Jeff Kaplan confirmed today, as he did during Overwatch's year-in-review developer update, that new heroes are coming to Blizzard's wildly popular shooter. But, if that's the case, why haven't we heard any details? According to Kaplan, it's all Sombra's fault, or rather the Sombra ARG.

Writing in the forums, Kaplan said "We have new heroes coming … The reason we don't talk about new hero development more is we took the community feedback regarding the Sombra ARG to heart."

We all knew new heroes were coming, and we all knew that the Sombra ARG was a huge fiasco. That being said, we're only now learning that the latter will directly affect how we are introduced to heroes going forward.

This also means that it is an exciting time to be an Overwatch player, because a new hero can be announced at any time without warning, Easter eggs and certainly without an ARG. For that, I think we can all thank Sombra for hiding these details away.
