Report: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Becomes Nintendo’s Best Selling Standalone Launch Title

It's safe to say that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has exceeded everyone's expectations. Getting a perfect 5/5 score from our own Jonathan Leack, praise that, by all accounts, seems to be well-deserved, Breath of the Wild is one of the most acclaimed video games of all time.

It's apparently also selling like hot cakes. According to a report by New York Times reporter Nick Wingfield, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime told him that Break of the Wild is now Nintendo's best-selling launch title that wasn't included in a bundle (Wii Sports, for example).

Even more impressive is that Breath of the Wild surpassed the hallowed Super Mario 64, which released on the Nintendo 64, en route to this impressive feat.

Of course, it's been a long time coming. The Wii U became the only Nintendo console to not have an exclusive Zelda title, so the market was certainly there for something in that series that people could latch onto.

It's important to note that, ultimately, sales of Breath of the Wild doesn't necessarily translate to sales of the Nintendo Switch, since Breath of the Wild is also available on the Wii U, and access and skepticism of Wii U owners may have prevented them from upgrading immediately.
