Alienware M17x The Clear Winner At PAX East 2011

The Alienware M17x takes the best parts of the M11x and M15x, and includes just about as many advanced doohickies as possible. What results is a hardware beast of which we have yet to encounter. Ultimate Gaming Laptop? Very likely.

Just take a gander at these specs. Full HD 17.3 inch monitor, Intel Sandy Bridge i7 processors with four cores (2 to 2.3 GHz), up to 16GB RAM, a 1.5TB hard drive (or 512 GB solid state drive), two USB 2.0 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI  1.4, HDMI 1.3, integrated 3.0 Mega Pixel HD Camera, WiFi card included, an illuminated rubber keyboard (in any colored lights you want), and a long batter life that can be extended by turning off all the pretty colors.

If that weren't enough, it is also the first Alienware laptop that is 3D ready, with video cards up to the 2048MB AMD HD6970M Radeon. And when I mean 3D ready, I mean it can render every game in 3D, if you wanted it to.

By incorporating SiBEAM wireless technology, it also has the remarkable ability to transmit a HD display signal without any wires to speak of, up to a range of 10 meters. Some HDTVs are already capable of receiving the signa, while others will require an extra $100 kit.

On another list of firsts, the M17x also includes speakers made by Klipsch, known as of the best audio gear makers in the industry. That said, one review on Sporkings says that the laptop is "whisper quiet". Ninja Nick approves.

Sure, this high-end laptop may be heavy and it might chug a bit trying to play a game in 3D while unplugged, but how else are you going to show off Crysis 2 to your friends without having them come over?

The Alienware M17x 3D Notebook will be heading to stores this month and will start at $1,499.
