Sony to Focus on Younger Audience with PS3

The Nintendo Wii has been successful by aiming at a younger demographic and at families. Kinect is also boding well by doing the same. Now, Sony wants a piece of the pie.

SCEE's new CEO Jim Ryan told IndustryGamers of the strategy:

I think you’ll see us taking the console more towards a slightly younger demographic. More family market. The core gamer will absolutely not be neglected. There’s going to be tons of great stuff for the core gamer but from our own studio, third parties there’s some quite interesting stuff happening in a number of areas which would allow us to open up a market that we accessed pretty successfully on both PS1 and PS3 but haven’t yet got to on PS3.

Sony is going to face an uphill battle. Not just because the other console manufacturers are doing so well in this space, but because the PlayStation Move is so utterly worthless – for families, for core gamers, for everyone.

Simply put, there aren't enough games for the PlayStation Move worth buying. There's not even enough horrible shovelware to pour down the necks of unsuspecting families and children. Until they can make the PlayStation Move appealing (and they're going to need a miracle), Sony will continue to take a backseat to the other, more family-friendly consoles.

How do you think that Sony can penetrate the family market?
