Soul Calibur V Story Trailer Unfolds on the Stage of History

I played quite a bit of Soul Calibur IV, but I didn't get very deep into the 3D, weapons-based fighter at the time. In Soul Calibur II I had a pretty mean Mitsurugi and I could deal quite a few blows with Maki as well, but I haven't played much of the series since Link, Spawn, and Heihachi had guest-starring roles.

I think that might change with Soul Calibur V. Sure, plenty of my favorite characters are missing. Maki had a kid? WTF? Still, I'll be picking up the game to see how it plays out with Ezio from Assassin's Creed on board with the rest of Namco Bandai's eclectic cast. Below you'll find screens of the alternate costumes for some of the fresh faces and returning favorites.

Soul Calibur V is schedule for release to retail on January 31st for Xbox 360 and PS3.
