Kinect Now Available For Windows

Have you ever wanted to flail your arms and legs around the room to control applications on your PC? More specifically would you like to use Microsoft's Kinect for your computer? No? Well too bad, because Microsoft has released a Windows PC version of Kinect today.

Kinect for Windows is now available via retailers for $249.99 MSRP, which is a $100 jump over the Xbox 360 version. It is currently only compatible with Microsoft's SDK and can be programmed using C++, Visual Basic, and C#, but developers are now able to integrate the controls into their software. However, this PC counterpart is not intended for PC gaming. That's okay, because Kinect makes more sense for Excel and Powerpoint anyway.

The $249.99 price tag and lack of gaming support is bewildering, but Microsoft has announced an upcoming Academic version which will sell for $149.99. If you think kids are addicted to iPads, wait until they figure out that they can complete their homework by using Kinect.
