Nintendo To Focus On “Dual Support” Between 3DS And Wii U Versions Of Next Super Smash Bros.

I don't care how much you love Super Smash Bros., you've got to admit that over the past thirteen years of the franchise's existence, the series hasn't changed all that much. Aside from a plethora of new characters and the handful of added gimmicks, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is basically the same game that launched on the N64 back in 1999.

Series creator Masahiro Sakurai is not oblivious to this fact and wishes to break free from the trend by adding some completely new elements to the next major installment. Sakurai explained how he plans to accomplish this by telling IGN: "There is a certain dead end we come to if we just expand the volume of the game. I intend to change direction a little as we go… The key to that's going to be its dual support for 3DS/Wii U."

He didn't elaborate much further on exactly how this "dual support" will work, though he did add that he plans to "come up with something that uses that link as the game's central axis," so make of that what you will. The game is still quite a ways off and if they really do plan to push the interconnectivity between the two devices, they're going to want to launch both versions of the game around the same time.
