PlayStation Users Rack $1.3 Million In Donations for Japan Relief Effort

Since the disaster in Japan Sony has given PlayStation 3 owners the opportunity to donate through the PSN Store. Go ahead, look and see for yourself.

That kind of convenience can only mean one thing: we lazy gamers finally got generous. Once given the opportunity, PlayStation gamers, bluray-watchers, only-everything-doers raised $1.3 Million dollars for Japanese Relief. Here's that number again, but this time with a lot of zeros:

$1,300,000

Not enough zeros? PlayStation Japan conveniently put the number into yen for those of us who just think that way anyways.

PlayStation users' worldwide donations as of March 31, 2011, totaled to 109,600,000 yen (approximately US $1.318 million). The full amount will be donated to an organization in each region supporting the relief and recovery efforts in communities affected by the earthquake.

Big Papa Kaz Hirai said "While we continue to make every effort to help the recovery of the affected communities in the region, I would like to express our gratitude to every single PlayStation user across the world who made a contribution to the effort."

How much did you donate?
