Final DLC For Final Fantasy XIII-2 Releases Today

Square Enix crashed my inbox late last night—past my bedtime late—with a press release announcing the FINAL set of Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC that will release today, May 15, 2012. I was so sleepy, the words "final Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC" threw me for a loop.

Some of the DLC is more costumes, but two of them are actual story DLC that appear to flow along with the overall plot of FFXIII-2. Then again, they said that about the Sazh DLC too, and that was just a bunch of gambling mini-games. However, I have some hope from their descriptions off the press release:

  • Snow's Story: Perpetual Battlefield – Snow is engaged in battles at the Coliseum after being separated from his fiancée, Serah. The episode also features a battle against the “Arbiter of Time,” who has been watching events unfold at the Coliseum. Snow should pose a difficult challenge to players and will allow them to end the Coliseum battles on a high note, and ultimately unlock Snow as a party member.
  • Lightning's Story: Requiem of the Goddess – This DLC reveals the arduous battle between Lightning and Caius not shown in the main game. Players will be able to adjust the difficulty level and play as Lightning, who uses special abilities available only in this episode. Players will also be able to unlock the FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 version of Lightning as a party member.

Square Enix advises players to only play these DLC once they have finished the game. From the title of Lightning's Story, I have to agree. If you finished the game, you'll see it too.

The costume DLC include White and Black Mage outfits for Noel and Serah and a set of 16 costumes for Mog. Each costume DLC costs 240 MSP or $2.99 via the PlayStation Network.

Snow's Story costs 320 MSP or $2.99, and Lightning's Story costs 400 MSP or $4.99.

You know this is all paving the way for a Final Fantasy XIII-3 announcement at E3, right?
