Destiny 2 Studio Apologizes, Is ‘Hard at Work’ Fixing the Final Shape DLC

Yesterday, Bungie released The Final Shape, the latest DLC for Destiny 2 that introduces a new subclass, new super abilities, and more. However, things haven’t gone down well, and the developer has had to step in to say it’s taking care of some problems.

Bungie says further updates are inbound

In a number of posts on the official Destiny 2 X account – as well as the Bungie Help page – the team has acknowledged that the new expansion has been having server issues since launching.

As a result, Bungie is on the case, with promises to fix the more egregious issues. Regular updates are being planned, which should rectify some of the major problems people have been having connecting to the game.

The developer also issued an apology, saying The Final Shape was built “to be an exciting, cathartic, story-driven adventure for everyone to enjoy,” and that the company is “truly sorry if connection issues and instability is getting in the way of that experience.”

According to recent developments from the help team, a solution has been deployed that is showing “significant recovery from CURRANT error codes” and additional errors are being closely monitored.

As a result of these connection issues, players have been voicing their displeasure with the new content. Earlier today, the Steam page showed the game had a “mostly negative” review score. However, at the time of writing, it’s now showing as “mixed”, so it seems the DLC is on the mend.

Once again, we come face-to-face with an ongoing presence when it comes to the current gaming landscape. Many AAA and indie studios and publishers are finding themselves on the receiving end of criticism after releasing a product that does not meet expectations.

Having said that, Destiny 2 has seen an increase in popularity recently, especially on PC. According to SteamDB, the game saw 314,634 concurrent players over the last 24 hours, just a couple of thousand short of its all-time peak.

The base title is also at the number two spot on Steam’s Top Sellers list, with The Final Shape just behind it in third.
