Ubisoft Drops Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 Trademark [Update: Trademark To Be Refiled]

UPDATE: Ubisoft has confirmed that due to the fact that Gearbox holds the exclusive rights for all Brothers in Arms trademarks, the USPTO denied their request. To avoid any further confusion, the publisher plans to let the request lapse and then refile (via Games Radar).

If Gearbox Software's Tarantino-styled take on World War II had you intrigued when Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 debuted at E3 last year, we've got a bit of unsettling news for you, as Ubisoft has allegedly abandoned the  trademark.

Now this could mean one of two things, they are either changing the title to something else, or the game has been cancelled. Considering the fact that we haven't heard a peep from either Ubisoft or Gearbox about this game since it was revealed, there's a good chance it has been canned. Then again, Furious 4 is a pretty terrible name, so there's still a sliver of hope that the game is simply getting re-branded.

E3 is right around the corner, so we'll probably hear more about this game in just a couple of weeks; unless of course the game has been cancelled, in which case I'm sure Ubi will do its best to sweep this one under the rug.
