Xbox One’s PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Exclusivity Is a Massive Win for Microsoft

If you were to ask the average gamer what the biggest game of 2017 is so far, many would probably say The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Mass Effect: Andromeda. However, the real leader isn’t what you’d expect.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, usually referred to as PUBG, is a game that has drawn in an incredible number of players, with over three million copies sold, and ranking as one of the three most popular livestream games of the year. And it’s done this with PC exclusivity… until now.

PUBG is officially coming to Xbox One as a console exclusive. Its multiplatform reveal was made during the Xbox One E3 2017 Press Conference, and garneted loud praise from the audience.

This is a game well-suited for the Xbox family, with a multiplayer only style of design that requires patience, and communication if you decide to queue up with friends. The announcement gives Xbox One a huge victory in the multiplatform space where it has fallen behind in recent years.

PUBG is a Day-Z style third-person survival shooter where 100 players are dropped into a large map with only one life, asked to survive until they are the last player standing. It’s well-known for its anxiety-inducing pacing that keeps players on edge, and delivers a huge sense of relief with every successful encounter.

PUBG will support 4K on the newly announced Xbox One X when it releases later this year.
