Shenmue III Gets First Official Teaser

Shenmue III is back in the here and now, and it’s not because of another delay or any other bad news. No, this time, it’s actually some good news: a teaser trailer, based on an early in-development build of the game. The teaser trailer focuses mostly on the emotional feel of the characters and world of Shenmue III. Watch below:

Of course, Shenmue III has been in development for more than two years, and, after originally being scheduled for the holiday season of 2017, Ys Net announced in June that Shnemue III would be delayed until the second half of 2018.

In an update on Kickstarter announcing the delay, the company stated “By utilizing new technologies, we have been able to discover new possibilities and expressions. In many ways, the game has become bigger and more beautiful than I initially expected. We do, however, need more time to deliver the game to you.”

That production value seems to be on display in this teaser with lighting and character models beyond what the series has seen thus far, and certainly beyond most middle-budget games. Shenmue III was backed on Kickstarter to the tune of $6.3 million.
