Ubisoft Stealth Releases Super Mario Odyssey-like 3D Platformer Ode

If there wasn’t proof already that 2017 is the year for the return of 3D platforming, then Ubisoft is here to present more evidence. Ubisoft just stealth launched the Super Mario Odyssey-like 3D platformer Ode today with no prior announcement or warning.

Ode is from Ubisoft Reflections, the studio behind other smaller titles like Grow Home and Grow Up. Ode has you play as Joy, a music-loving blob who wishes to spread her fame across her alien world. She accomplishes this by traveling to four distinct “garden worlds” and collecting as many fallen stars as she can throughout the various landscapes.

More details are given on the 3D platformer Ode in the official Ubisoft blog. It “has no tutorial or guide, and you’re encouraged to explore its four garden worlds at your own pace.” Sounding very similar to last month’s Super Mario Odyssey, you collect these fallen stars by exploring and solving puzzles in whichever order you want.

According to Ubisoft, Ode allows you to experiment with the worlds in many different ways. Its version of Super Mario Odyssey’s moons can be used for more purposes beyond the expected collectible aspect. Some of the examples given is that you can use these fallen stars to throw, attract, and even alter Joy’s form in order to access new areas in a level.

As the name implies, Ode is very musically-themed. Solving puzzles and exploring the environment will add more depth to the background music, “gradually creating a musical and visual backdrop tailored to your play style.” For anyone interested in this new platformer, you won’t have to wait long at all since it’s available right now.

You can purchase Ode only on PC at the moment with no word on whether or not it will come to consoles. It is only sold through Ubisoft’s own proprietary online store Uplay for the low price of $4.99 or €4.99.
