Microsoft First, “No, Really” Free-To-Play Title: Happy Wars

Microsoft has been flirting with the idea of free-to-play titles for an excruciatingly long time, but just when we thought they would abandon the concept entirely and continue to force developers to make all DLC cost something.

So it is with a surprise that Play XBLA has announced Happy Wars, the first free-to-play, "large-scale" multiplayer action game (so not "MMO"?) that pairs 30 players from around the world for some fantastical castle-defending action. Available in Autum 2012, the downloadable title will be available for all Xbox LIVE Gold members and will fund the developer through the usual microtransactions, mainly for costume aesthetics.

Hopefully, this means that F2P developers like Nexon America can finally submit their titles and even enhance their existing titles like Dungeon Fighter Live, which would be incredible if it was able to include the free content from the deeper PC version.

What other F2P titles would you want to see Microsoft bring to the console?
